Emergency funds in the form of grants and interest? free loans of up to $1,000 are given each year to more than 100 professional literary writers, including screenwriters, facing financial crisis. Assistance is given within six weeks of application, and in urgent cases $200 can be released within 24 hours. PEN's Emergency Funds are not intended to subsidize writing projects.
